May is a busy month in the Boston Metro area! From special Mother’s Day events, to community festivals and Memorial Day happenings, there’s plenty to see and do. Here’s a sampling to get you started!
Mother’s Day 2016 in the Boston Metro:
May 8: Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum. Stroll among 370 lilac plants on the beautiful greens of Arnold Arboretum. This free event offers live music and family activities. Food trucks will be on site, or you can pack a picnic. Note: due to construction in the area, use of public transportation is recommended.
May 8: Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise with Boston Harbor Cruises. Treat mom to an elegant brunch buffet while enjoying Boston’s cityscape. The peaceful, 2-hour cruise floats along the inner harbor. $64 per person, includes a rose for mom. Reservations required, call soon!
May 8: Duckling Day celebrates moms and families with activities at Boston Common starting at 10:00 a.m. The popular Duckling Day Parade steps off at noon from the Common and ends in the Boston Public Garden. Registration required. Discount for advance registration, you may also register the day of the event.
Boston Metro Area festivals and events, May 2016:
April 28-May 8: ArtWeek Boston offers hundreds of creative experiences, artist talks, performances, behind-the-scenes tours, and kids’ activities. Many are free.
May 14-22: Bay State Bike Week features bike rodeos, organized rides, breakfasts, and workshops. Hobnob with pedal-pushers at biking events throughout the metro area. Some events happen earlier in the month, so check the Bike Week event page for details!
May 15-22: Together Boston celebrates the diversity of music, art, and technology through live performances, films, exhibits, and educational panels. The eclectic offerings create a multi-cultural, multi-media experience. Located in Cambridge.
May 27-29: Boston Calling Music Festival features several outdoor stages of all-day live music at City Hall Plaza. Food and beverage vendors are located throughout the festival. While the event is family-friendly, please note that strollers and backpacks are not allowed.
May 25-May 30: The Garden of Flags on Boston Common honors Massachusetts men and women who have died in the defense of our nation. About 37,000 flags will be placed beginning at 1:00 p.m. on May 25, remaining on display until sundown May 30.
May 28: 70th Annual Memorial Day services at Veterans Memorial Park in the Back Bay Fens, 11:00 a.m., near the Kelleher Rose Gardens.
May 30: Memorial Day Open House, Museum of Fine Arts. Free admission! Enjoy special exhibits, guided tours, hands-on art making and family activities.
