Autumn is a beautiful time of year in the Boston Metro! Our fall foliage is spectacular, and our festivals and events offer plenty of traditional family fun. Here’s a look at what’s happening in October!

Sept. 30-Oct. 2: Harpoon Brewery Octoberfest. Enjoy beer, bratwurst and oompah music! South Boston. Cover charge applies, see website for details and parking information.

Oct. 1-31: Connors Farm Corn Maze and Fall Fun. Rated as one of the top corn mazes in the country by USA Today, Connors Farm also features fresh produce, paintball, hay rides, apple and pumpkin picking, and much more.

Oct. 1: Douglas Octoberfest . Visit downtown Douglas for handmade crafts, food, beverages and live entertainment. Rides and games for the kids.

Oct. 2: Cambridge 5K Octoberfest. German-themed race through Kendall Square benefitting Cambridge Family & Children’s Service. Run the race in your Lederhosen or Dirndl and you could win a prize in the German costume contest! Registration includes a race shirt, and food & beverages at the post-race Oktoberfest party.

Oct. 6: Best Chef Contest. This exciting fundraiser benefits Quincy Community Action Programs. Talented chefs compete in a timed contest, using basic ingredients to prepare a gourmet meal. Enjoy signature dishes from the chefs’ restaurants. Vote for your favorite chef in the “People’s Choice” competition. Auction and raffles, too!

Oct. 17-18: Great New England BBQ & OysterFest at Wachusett Mountain. Delicious food, beer tent, farmer’s market, and craft fair with over 75 artisans. Activities for the kids.

Oct. 22-23: Head of the Charles Regatta. Watch athletes from around the world compete in this famous rowing race on the Charles River. Post-race reception event, Evening by the Charles, begins at 7 p.m.

Oct. 29-30:  Zoo Howl at Franklin Park Zoo. Family-friendly Halloween fun! Kids can enjoy the Trick-or-Treat-Trail, and there’s crafts, games, hay rides and costume contests. Dare to explore the haunted maze. Say hello to our many animal residents!
