Oct. 4: Best Chef Contest, Quincy. This tasty fundraiser benefits Quincy Community Action Programs. See some of our best local chefs race the clock to create a gourmet meal using basic ingredients. Your ticket includes a complete dinner featuring signature dishes from participating chefs’ restaurants. Vote for your favorite chef, and enjoy raffles and auctions. Tickets required; business attire dress code.
Thursdays through Sundays, Oct. 4 through Nov. 3: Enjoy creepy, chilling lore told by entertaining, costumed guides during the Cambridge Ghost Tours! Children are welcome, but parental discretion is advised due to the colorful descriptions that are part of this unique walking tour. See website for details and tour times!
Weekends through Oct 21: King Richard’s Faire, Carver. Immerse yourself in the Renaissance era as you are entertained by jousting tournaments, acrobats, minstrels and regal processions. Feast upon giant turkey legs, browse the wares of talented artisans, and enjoy the sights and sounds of merriment on over 80 acres.
Oct. 11-14: Food and Wine Festival, Boston. The Taste of WGBH is one of the most popular food festivals in New England! This four-day, adults-only event is a culinary adventure of gourmet food samples, craft beers and excellent wines. Held at the WGBH studios lot, rain or shine. See website for tickets and details. Oct. 19: Annual Pumpkin Float, Boston Common Frog Pond. Free, kid-friendly event! Refreshments, music and family activities. Bring an 8-inch or smaller carved pumpkin, and watch it be illuminated and set on a floating display.
Oct. 20-21: Head of the Charles Regatta. Watch athletes from around the world compete in this famous rowing race on the Charles River. Post-race reception event, Evening by the Charles, begins at 7 p.m. Free shuttle service available for spectators. See website for details.
Oct. 27-28: Zoo Howl at Franklin Park Zoo. Family-friendly Halloween fun! Kids can enjoy the Trick-or-Treat-Trail and costume contest. Plus, there’s games, crafts, hay rides and a haunted maze for the whole family. See website for tickets, special programs, and more.
